This year, the Boys' Brigade will be
celebrating the 125th anniversary of the first ever BB camp at
Tighnabruaich. To mark this anniversary, a special badge can be awarded
to a young person who has attended a camp during the year.
To participate in this national event,
1st Galashiels went on another expedition/camping weekend between 17th
and 19th June. We set off on the Friday from the Church and walked to
Yair Forest where we camped overnight. On Saturday morning the boys got
up, cooked their own breakfast, packed up their tents and we walked to
the 3 Brethren which are three 9ft cairns
that tower over the trig point which were erected at the start of the
16th century by the lairds of Yair, Selkirk and Philiphaugh to mark the
boundary of their land. We then walked back to Yair Bridge where the
boys set up camp again.
It was another early morning on Sunday, as the boys got
up at the crack of dawn to cook breakfast, pack the tents then walk back
to Galashiels in time for the morning service at 11am. Each boy that took part in the
expedition was awarded a commemorative certificate as well as the badge. |
